Eric Ball is a name synonymous with the music of the brass band medium. His works; Exodus, Resurgam, Star Lake, and The Kingdom Triumphant are just a few of the titles which still form a large proportion of standard repertoire both in the brass band movement and the Salvation Army.

 

Here we have a lesser known work which although for quartet, rather than full band, contains all of the hallmarks, eccentricities, lyricism and musical colour that we have come to expect and love from the music of Eric Ball.

 

Using the simple hymn tune When He Cometh as its basis, Jewels is aptly named as it is just that.
