Cat No.JM72120 Composer: Ennio Morricone Arranger: Stephen Roberts Category: FILM MUSIC
Ennio Morricone’s score for the 1986 film The Mission is perhaps best known for the melody known as Gabriel’s Oboe. However there is plenty of other fine material in which Morricone contrasts the ‘pure’ ethnic music of the South American Indians against the ‘civilised’ music of the Jesuit priests. Morricone, in typically economical fashion, bases nearly all the music on the descending notes C B G and expertly creates brilliantly vivid contrasts of mood and atmosphere.
